He also collected much material for the Diccionário bibliographico português: "Do muito que o Diccionario lhe deve em informações e esclarecimentos por elle subministrados, tem dado e continuarão a dar honroso testemunho as multiplicadas paginas em que essas noticias foram, e serão ainda aproveitadas" (Innocêncio IX, 322).The Visconde's magnificent library was left to his cousin, the second Conde de Samodães, and was later sold in one of the most important Portuguese book auctions ever conducted (1921-22).Provenance: António Cardoso da Silva Júnior, 2º Visconde de Godim.*** Innocêncio II, 421; IX, 321. Add to basketPaperback. Condition: New. Print on Demand. This book provides an exhaustive exploration of the reign and abdication of Dom Fernando I of Portugal, commonly known as The Handsome, focusing on his regency, from 1367 to his death in 1383. The author examines the complex web of political alliances, royal marriages, and dynastic rivalries that characterized this period of Portuguese history. Analyzing original sources, including chronicles, letters, and official documents, the book sheds light on Dom Fernando's role in the 1383-1385 crisis of the Portuguese succession, which led to the Battle of Aljubarrota. The author explores the political, economic, and social factors that contributed to the instability of the time, and the regency's attempts to maintain order and secure the succession. This book offers valuable insights into the intricate relationships between the Portuguese monarchy, the nobility, and the Church during the late fourteenth century, providing a deeper understanding of the forces that shaped the development of the Portuguese nation and its role in the wider context of European history. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. In rare cases, an imperfection in the original, such as a blemish or missing page, may be replicated in the book. print-on-demand item.
