Rose, with the patron of the arts and prominent attorney's bookplate on the front pastedown. Rose (1904-2002), a onetime law partner of Richard Nixon and John N. Mitchell in the firm Nixon Mudge Rose Alexander & Mitchell, was instrumental in bringing Nixon into the firm in 1963 after he had lost the election for governor of California. Rose s collection of art was donated to the Cleveland Art Institute and to the Williams College Art Museum, which has a room bearing his name. An unusual work with a distinguished provenance.
