Original printed wrappers preserved (lightly toned), the front showing a woodcut vignette of a monk with a wine barrel. Presentation inscription, without the recipient's name, on the leaf between the original front wrapper and the half-title, signed by Barennes and dated 7 November 1912. The limitation leaf is numbered 5 in manuscript and signed by the publisher, Mounastre-Picamilh. Very little foxing. Fine. 1 of 15 papier à bras copies inscribed by the author as he left the Gironde archives for the Bordeaux spirits trade. First edition of Jean Barennes's study of medieval viticulture and winemaking in the Bordelais as newly attached archiviste-paléographe to the Gironde's own departmental archives. For the occasion, he gathered the result from a seven-part serialization in the Revue historique de Bordeaux et du département de la Gironde into this standalone edition, crowned by the Société d'Agriculture de la Gironde and prefaced by long-serving Gironde archivist J.-A. Brutails. This copy is signed as one of only fifteen printed on papier à bras from an edition of 315, numbered 5 and signed by the publisher, Marcel Mounastre-Picamilh, on the limitation leaf. It carries a second relevant mark beyond the publisher's own: on a separate leaf, Barennes has added his own autograph presentation inscription, dated 7 November 1912. That date falls in the same year Barennes married into the family of Édouard Bardinet and left the Gironde archives for good, taking up the administration of the family's Bordeaux rum and spirits house, a post he held until his death in 1934.
