Some old paper, like from a sack is pasted to both pastedowns, and the free enpaper in the rear is stuck along the bottom edge to the pastedown. On the front free endpaper is a bookplate from the Petersborough New Hampshire Library that indicates this book was withdrawn. I suspect that the paper and glueing on the pastedowns has something to do with the way the book was bound in the library or from the card pockets. ; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 544 pages; This is a good reference/reading copy of this well-known work on rock gardens and alpines.

Hardcover. Condition: Used - Very Good. The English artist David Hockney is known world-wide for his colorful and classically composed images of sunshine, swimming pools, and the good life in California, for his prolific and innovative theater designs, and for his frank depictions of homosexual life and domesticity in which, long before the era of gay liberation, he unabashedly proclaimed his own sexual identity. Kenneth Silver, Professor of Art History at New York University, charts Hockney's multifaceted career from his early work of the 1960s, poised between abstraction and pop art's revival of figuration, to his most recent excursions into the high-tech world of computers and new print technologies. Paperback. Condition: New. First edition. 158p., illus., wrps. As a garnish, the book also displays a repertoire of pollera remembrances of various figures of Peruvian culture: the grilled chicken nostalgies of Vania Masías, Eloy Jáuregui or Renato Cisneros; the childhood recipes evoked by Susana Baca, Norma Martínez or La Tigresa del Oriente; and even poultry songs, like the one shared by the plastic artist Gerardo Chávez, among other memories about our chicken every day. "A hero who always wins the battles. We can always turn to. We can always count on", according to the architects of this book of flavors that are brooding in the national soul.
