Two ephemera laid in a back pocket: a twelve-page beige stapled pamphlet, A Fire-Defying Landmark (1912; about the Bank Exchange on Montgomery Street), by Pauline Jacobson and a facsimile folding map showing San Francisco in 1851. 8 1/2" x 11 1/2." 178 pages, complete. Pages are clean and intact overall but have browning and offsetting on front and back endpapers and slight wear and browning along edges. Covers are clean and intact except for slight wear to extremities. Dust jacket is clean and intact overall but has browning (most noticeable along spine) and chipping along top edges. A Very Good book in a Very Good dust jacket. "California Centennial Edition Number 8." A gem of local history. This volume contains the printed text of Men and Memories of 1850, a charming contemporary account of San Francisco in 1850 by T. A. Barry and B. A. Patten of the bar, Barry & Patten's. Their account offers a glimpse into the life and scenery of San Francisco at the time including descriptions of the Golden Triangle area in the city demarcated by the Examiner Building, Portsmouth Plaza, and the Ferry Building. Each chapter contains Barry and Patten's descriptions of San Francisco encompassing subjects anywhere from famous residents to historical incidents to local establishments. Foreword by Joseph A.
