He provides lively anecdotes of Los Angeles and its residents under Mexican and American rule, emphasizing cowboys and criminals and native Americans. "The book is drawn from the wealth of unpublished material that Major Bell left at his death, containing much information that he did not wish to make public while his subjects were still alive. There is material on Murieta and other California outlaws." Very good, tight copy in a bright dust jacket with light wear to the spine ends, corners and extremities, a closed tear to upper portion of the front cover and light wear to the front flap fold.
