Top corners slightly bumped.; Substantial, school-provenanced copy of the official illustrated catalogue of the 1905 Salon of the Socià tà des Artistes Français, published under Ludovic Baschet in the Bibliothà que des Annales series and recording painting, sculpture and public monuments exhibited at the Grand Palais. This example was part of the 1909 bequest of Bristol public accountant Charles Julius Ryland, whose working library of serious reference works was left to Colstonâs Girlsâ School, the cityâs principal endowed girlsâ day school founded in 1891 to provide rigorous secondary education for girls. Clearly adapted for English institutional use, it has English-language advertisements and Chatto & Windus catalogues bound in at front and rear, a bespoke Langdon & Davis (Bristol) binderâs label, the school ex-libris on the front pastedown, and numerous plans, plates and text illustrations, an evocative witness to the place of Paris Salon culture in Edwardian art and modern-languages teaching in Bristol.; 8vo 8" - 9" tall; 256 pages.
