No Binding. Condition: Very Good. B/w paper map 23 x 33cm. Acceptable, folded into quarters, creased, with small 1cm patch of loss with minor impact on text, previous owner's details (Private Isaac G. Stone, with his address in Marbo) and note "For Patrole use only" handwritten to the front. Scale approx 1.6 miles to the inch. Compiled and reproduced by 947th Engineer Aviation Topographic Company from 41st Photo Reconnaissance photos. This shows 1st, 2nd, and 3rd class roads, point to point mileage, route numbers, and numerous military installations including airfields, ammunition dumps, hospitals, submarine and pilot rest camps, rocket range, bomb disposal, 3rd and 6th Marine Divisions etc. Undated but around the time the US turned the island into a base for Allied operations after recapturing it from the Japanese in 1944. It appears to be a revised version of a larger 44 x 50cm edition. Very rare - just 2 copies of a revised 1948 edition on Worldcat (Dartmouth Library, University of Washington Library) which make reference to an earlier 1947 edition.
