It features images by six photographers who were invited in late 1991 to capture the largely destroyed city centre, which marked the no man s land between east and west Beirut during parts of the conflict. The photographers were Gabriele Basilico, Rene Burri, Raymond Depardon, Fouad Elkoury, Robert Frank, and Josef Koudelka. The book documents the window between the end of the conflict and the large-scale redevelopment of the area by the real estate developer Solidere, driven forward by the late Lebanese prime minister Rafik Hariri.
