Sulla scorta dei Caelestia di Cleomede, l autore discute per la prima volta in esametri la diversa durata dei giorni e delle notti durante l anno e il moto contrario dei pianeti. Il rigore scientifico e la grande perizia poetica di Basinio riescono a modellare anche i più complessi argomenti in versi raffinati e retoricamente perfetti. Il volume presenta la prima edizione critica del poema, corredata dalla traduzione italiana e dal commento integrale dei due libri, che dedica larga attenzione agli argomenti tecnici e astronomici e all esame dell apparato iconografico.
