Appealing example of a tool used in Javanese batik art: the copper stamping tool (cap or tjap) with a geometric design framed and embedded in teak. The embedding of batik ca…p designs was developed by a craftsman ( later dubbed "The Cap Man") in Jakarta in the early 1970s, and in response to local demand and from the tourist trade. This example was acquired from him by a social scientist with a career long interest in Indonesia.
