The reign of Thailand's last absolute monarch (King Prajadhipok, from 1925 to 1935) was one of intense debate about the impact of democratization on Thai society. Both Prajadhipok and his predecessors had grave concerns about the appropriateness of a democratic system in Thailand and feared that military, rather than democratic, rule might replace absolute monarchy. This premonition proved to be accurate even to the present day. The documents presented in this monograph, translated from the original Thai, have never before been published and provide a valuable historical record of the debate that led up to Prajadhipok's abdication in 1935. x, 102 pp. Size: 28 x 22 cm.
