The Very Good- binding is light blue paper over boards, blue cloth-backed, illustration of Dorothy, Tinman, Scarecrow, and the Lion on the cover with red, Yellow and black lettering, rear cover illustration of Tinman Scarecrow, and the Lion, edge-wear, corners bumped and wear, wear at the head and foot of the spine, illustrated endpapers. Ink writing dated 1941 on the verso of front free endpaper. The binding is tight and pages are clean. Color and black-and-white illustrations by Oskar Lebeck throughout the book. About the author: Lyman Frank Baum (May 15, 1856 - May 6, 1919) was an American author best known for his children's fantasy books, particularly The Wonderful Wizard of Oz, part of a series. In addition to the 14 Oz books, Baum penned 41 other novels, 83 short stories, over 200 poems, and at least 42 scripts. He made numerous attempts to bring his works to the stage and screen; the 1939 adaptation of the first Oz book became a landmark of 20th-century cinema. Born and raised in Chittenango, New York, Baum moved west after an unsuccessful stint as a theater producer and playwright. He and his wife opened a store in South Dakota and he edited and published a newspaper. They then moved to Chicago, where he worked as a newspaper reporter and published children's literature, coming out with the first Oz book in 1900. Narrando la storia dell'alto funzionario Krastik che si autoaccusa di un infanticidio mai commesso, nella "Porta verso l'impossibile" Oskar Baum affronta un tema biblico: la redenzione dell'umanità da parte di un individuo che prende su di sé le colpe del mondo. Cieco fin dall'adolescenza, Baum si costruì un mondo alternativo intimamente pervaso da un alto senso dell'arte, come pure dalla ricerca di un significato religioso della vita, ricerca che tradusse appunto nel romanzo che pubblichiamo per la prima volta in italiano. Il romanzo venne apprezzato e elogiato da Franz Kafka, di cui Baum, assieme a Max Brod, era amico intimo nel "Circolo di Praga ristretto". Il legame con Kafka era talmente serrato, al punto che egli lesse a Baum le prime stesure della "Metamorfosi" e altri suoi testi. Libro.
