Published by Frederick L. Chapman & Co, Chicago, 1901
A single issue of this interdenominational Christian social gospel newspaper edited by deaf cartoonist and caricaturist Frank Beard who was the paper's principal illustrator. Founded in the 1890s and published by the Frederick L. Chapman Publishing Co. in Chicago, the paper advocated social reformism through Christian ethics and was a vocal supporter of the temperance movement. Although primarily concerned with religious matters and social ills, some of the newspaper's content veered on the anti-Semitic in its denunciation of Eastern European immigration. Large format, stapled wrappers, cover illustration by Frank Beard, 20 p., illus. Edge wear, small closed tears and chipping, 2" x 2" chunk missing from the bottom of the rear wrapper.
