"Geoffrey Giuliano looks at the man who was perpetually at odds with himself and unravels the mystery of Lennon's private life through interviews with family members and friends, letters, and never before published diaries and tapes from Lennon himself. but surrounded by people Lennon perceived to be bent on his continued fall into depression, bulimia, and cultism. The reader finds that Lennon is full of contradictions--devoted husband and adulterer; he is portrayed as a doting dad, but was an absentee father; a macrobiotic health enthusiast who wrestled with alcoholism, heroin addiction, and bulimia; he was a spokesman for world peace, but was unable to control his volcanic temper; a vocal feminist and recalcitrant chauvinist; an innovative and influential rock 'n' roller who renounced music for years. As this book makes abundantly clear, Lennon himself was painfully conscious of his weaknesses, excesses, and failings, of the disparity between the public image and his everyday person" (eine Rezension).- Vorsatz mit eigenh. Spizer "To Cathy - Best Beatles wishes Bruce Spizer 3-28-2009". - "The Beatles Are Coming! covers the Beatles first visit to the United States and the events leading up to the group's arrival on February 7, 1964. It is the most thorough and accurate book ever published on how Beatlemania evolved in America. The book details why Capitol Records turned down the Beatles four times before finally agreeing to release their records. It tells the stories of two small companies, Vee-Jay and Swan, who issued the group's records without success in 1963. It details the American media coverage of the Beatles in late 1963, when Beatlemania was viewed as a curious fad happening in England that could never catch on in the United States. It explains how the Beatles were booked for The Jack Paar Program and The Ed Sullivan Show, as well as two concerts at Carnegie Hall. The book concludes with stories and pictures of the Beatles historic first U.S. visit in February, 1964. The book contains over 450 images, including many previously unpublished photos of the Beatles" (498 Productions). - Sehr gutes Exemplar. Sprache: englisch.

A 5.75" x 4" deckle-edged B&W glossy photo of the group with instruments in their black leather outfits. On the back is printed "With Best Wishes from Paul Pete John George. The Beatles. April 5th 1962". Around the text are clear blue ballpoint signatures: "für Christa von George Harrison", "für Christa von Paul McCartney", "Roy Young" (signed twice), "für Christa von John Lennon", "Best Wishes from Pete Best", and "Best Wishes from Bernard Boyle". These photos were given out at a Cavern Club concert honoring the Official Fan Club on the above date. Double matted with an 8.75" x 6" B&W photo of the Beatles on stage with Roy Young at the Star Club to an overall 11.75" x 15.75". These autographs are of German origin. Minor wear and some light fingerprints at the bottom edge, overall Fine. From the Uwe Blaschke Beatles Collection. COA from Heritage Auctions. Roy Young was a British Rock singer and pianist who had some success in the late fifties on various Pop music TV shows and touring with Cliff Richard and the Shadows. His records on Fontana and Ember during this period had only modest sales. In 1961, he decided to move to Hamburg with its burgeoning music scene and took up residence in the Top Ten Club, performing with Tony Sheridan, Ringo Starr, and others. When the Star-Club opened in April 1962, he moved to the new venue where he regularly played piano and sang background vocals for the Beatles. According to various interviews, Young claims that he had an offer to become a member of the group: "I remember coming off stage one night and Brian Epstein, the Beatles' manager, was standing at the side of the stage," he recalls. "Brian said, 'may I have a word? The lads asked me to ask if you would be interested in going back to England and join them to get a record contract'. "I told him it was an incredible offer but I would have to think about it. If I had been smart enough there is no doubt what I would have done." Instead, Roy says, he took the decision to stay in Hamburg. "I went back to Brian and said 'I'm going to decline your offer because I'm under contract with the Star-Club'. I could have got out of it. But I'd walked out of the Top Ten Club (another Hamburg club in the Beatles story) and I thought 'I just can't do it again'." (The Oxford Times UK interview, April 12, 2012). According to the Mersey Beat (Issue 5, August 31, 1961) it was Bernard Boyle who formed the first-ever Fan Club for the Beatles. He was a huge admirer of the group from the early days, even to the point of losing his job for spending too much time at lunchtime sessions at the Cavern. "I talked to Bob Wooler and kept saying to him, 'This group's the f**king greatest ever!'-so he introduced me to them. I was over the moon. I looked up to all of them: I was young, naive, wide-eyed, and I thought these guys were the greatest in the world. My one-hour lunch breaks from the office got longer and longer until eventually I went back to find I'd been fired. So I started doing occasional jobs for the Beatles, to help Neil. I'd carry the gear and go to gigs with them in the van. I was just a kid but I wormed my way in and they didn't mind." (Tune In: The Beatles: All These Years by Mark Lewisohn, page 464). Peter Blake's scrapbook is a collection of pencil sketches, charcoal drawings and montages showing Eric and the band during rehearsals and performances. Blake was the Associate Artist of the National Gallery and is probably best known for his graphic cover of The Beatles' 'Sergeant Pepper' album cover. A vast selection of original memorabilia from the concert tour including back stage passes, hotel room lists, Polaroid photographs, seating plans, set lists, laminates and sheet music are reproduced in the scrapbook, many of them tip-ins pasted in by hand. The scrapbook is accompanied by a commentary book by Derek Taylor. Taylor attended rehearsals in Dublin, performances at the Royal Albert Hall and the after-show party. His account provides a unique insight into the backstage and on-the-road world of Eric Clapton and his band. A former publicist for the Beatles' Apple Corps (as well as the Mamas and Papas, The Beach Boys and The Byrds), Taylor was one of the most influential music industry professionals of the time. His commentary offers the reader a rare opportunity to experience an insider's perspective on the man who is universally recognised as the world's greatest blues guitarist, labelled 'God' during his time with John Mayall, Cream, and Blind Faith in the mid to late sixties. A very early pop title from Genesis, who have published well in excess of 80 music books; preceded only by I Me Mine (1980), Fifty Years Adrift (1984), Twenty Years Ago Today (1987), Songs by George Harrison (1987) and Blinds and Shutters (1990). Signed.

BEATLES, The (illustrator). O.A.C. In-Flight Menu. [London: BOAC, n.d.c.a 1968]. An autographed in-flight menu from the British Overseas Airways Corporation (BOAC). The front cover is signed in black ink by John Lennon and George Harrison. The Paul McCartney autograph is actually in John Lennon's hand and Ringo Starr's is in the hand of Neil Aspinall, the Beatles' long time road manager and assistant. Octavo (11 1/4 x 7 1/2 inches; 286 x 190 mm). 8 pp. Full color wrappers. Some black ink transfer on the back cover, probably from another signed copy being placed underneath it. A very good example of these autographs. The menu for the B.O.A.C. route from Hong Kong-London, via Rangoon, Delhi, Beirut and Rome. This menu is possibly from April of 1968 when John Lennon and George Harrison left India after a two month stint studying Transcendental Meditation with Maharishi Mahesh Yogi at his ashram in Rishikesh, where they stayed until 12 April. Ringo Starr and Paul McCartney left before George and John in March which would explain why their signatures are produced by other people's hands. This item was sold at Bonhams Auctions in 2022. According to Bonhams, "this was a gift from a First Class B.O.A.C. stewardess." HBS 69275. $10,000. Signed.

Rare Bag One lithograph signed by Beatles icon John Lennon. One page, the title page from Lennon's Bag One Portfolio. Signed by him beneath the image. From the collection of Jonathan Cott, author and editor of numerous books, predominately focusing on music and who has written articles for varied publications such as Rolling Stone, The New York Times, The New Yorker, The Los Angeles Times, The Village Voice, Vogue, Esquire and The Wall Street Journal. This was presented byÂJohnÂLennonÂto Jonathan Cott, who interviewedÂLennonÂand Yoko Ono several times, and whose December 5, 1980 interview withÂLennon was the final solo interview conducted before his death on December 8th of that year. Lennon had created the "Bag One" drawings depicting his wedding and honeymoon with Yoko Ono and presented them to her in 1969. Framed. Rare and desirable and with noted provenance. In 1969, as a wedding gift for Yoko, John drew the 'Bag One Portfolio'â"a chronicle of their wedding ceremony, honeymoon, and their plea for world peace in the Bed-In. The following year the artwork was produced in a series of three hundred portfolios of fifteen signed prints each. The majority depict John and Yoko's most intimate, private momentsâ"upon their first exhibition in London, more than half were deemed 'indecent' and confiscated by Scotland Yard. The rare title page features perhaps the most famous and recognizable print of the suite.
