The author, an experienced government official, offers a unique perspective on the region, having spent years exploring its remote villages and interacting with its diverse tribes. Through vivid accounts of his encounters, the author provides a comprehensive overview of the country's rich culture and complex social dynamics. The book traces the history of Papua New Guinea from its earliest Spanish and Portuguese discoveries to its eventual division between the British and Germans. It explores the impact of European colonialism on the indigenous population and the challenges faced by the country in the post-independence era. The author also examines the region's intricate system of traditional beliefs, customs, and art forms, shedding light on the unique worldview of the Papuan people. This book is a valuable resource for anyone interested in the history, culture, and people of Papua New Guinea. It offers a fascinating glimpse into a world that is both familiar and foreign, and its insights into the human condition are profound and thought-provoking. This book is a reproduction of an important historical work, digitally reconstructed using state-of-the-art technology to preserve the original format. Hardcover. Condition: Fair. First U.S. Edition.
