Il cultiva dans sa jeunesse la poésie latine avec un tel succès que l'empereur Maximilien Ier lui décerna la couronne de poète lauréat; il s'occupa ensuite de recherches sur les antiquités et l'histoire de l'Allemagne. Outre le présent ouvrage on a de lui : Triumphus Veneris (1503) ; Ars condendi carmina (1506) ; et un grand nombre de dissertations savantes, réunies sous le titre d'Opuscule( 1516).
