Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. Dust Jacket Condition: Good. 1st Edition. Printed in Russia. Date on the title page. First Printing. Frontispiece, Publisher's Note, Introduction by M. Yovchuk, Articles, Reviews, Letters, Notes, Index; LI, 552 pages. The original binding is impressive: quarter dark-brown simulated-leather cloth, with oval bas-relief insert of Belinsky on the upper board, over ivory pebbled paper with gilt lettering; gilt lettering on the bumped spine is a bit dulled but still clear. The interior is creamy-bright and completely clean, despite toning to the top-edge and light offsetting to the endpapers; the original brown silk ribbon marker is still present. The original sturdy dust jacket is sunned, with several small tears and a closed chip at the head of the spine. [Please see my five images of the actual book.] From the Introduction: "Belinsky represented an astonishing combination of many talents. He was not only a great literary critic and publicist; he was an outstanding Russian philosopher, a classical representative of Russian materialist philosophy of the nineteenth century, a talented sociologist, historian of Russian literature and founder of modern, revolutionary democratic aesthetics. In addition, [he] was, first and foremost, an indomitable fighter against tsarism and serfdom, one of the initiators of the revolutionary-democratic movement in Russia in the nineteenth century." As with every book from my father's collection, tipped-in at the front is the small, attractive, acid-free bookplate pictured on my homepage. All books are wrapped with special care and are shipped promptly with tracking; international sales sent via global priority, also with tracking.
