Add to basketSoft cover. Condition: Good. "Lover Boy" by Harmon Bellamy is the 1950 paperback reprint of the novel, "Sacrifice". This Venus Books reprint (No. 109) is a digest-sized pulp paperback with GGA cover art by George Gross. Venus Books was an imprint of publisher Star Guidance, Inc. "Lover Boy" was hot stuff for 1950, and, today, re…veals the sadly sexist attitudes of that time. I don't know if the prose of the story is as purple as the cover blurb : "NAIVE — AND NAUGHTY! In Jack's strong , demanding arms, beautiful, blonde Lois was completely helpless. "But why try to fight this pulsating desire, when, in a matter of hours she and Jack would be man and wife. But with the dawn came a shocking surprise - that left her floundering in a sea of despair, a surprise that drove her into the open, eager arms of virile Bob Duncan ! But when Bob entered the picture she knew that she had made a terrible mistake. With every fiber of her being yearning for his love, she knew that he would never play second fiddle to the dashing Jack Worthy. How could a man want a woman who had belonged - body and soul - to another man - especially when that man was his very best friend?" A surprise, will be for some, is that there are several halftone photo illustrations scattered through the text as accompaniment to the story. These are not mentioned on the title page or cover. TITLE : Lover Boy (Retitled reprint of "Sacrifice") AUTHOR : Harmon Bellamy (pseudonym of Herman Irving Bloom, 1908 - 1992) COVER ART : George Gross (1909 - 2003) IMPRINT : Venus Books PUBLISHER : Star Guidance, Inc. PLACE : New York DATE : (1950) EDITION Paperback Reprint ( 1st Venus Books Printing ) PHYSICAL DETAILS : Contains 9 halftone, black-and-white photographs (spread through the text; 130 pages; 5 3/8" x 7 1/2"; color pictorial wraps, saddled stapled. The inside of the rear cover has the publisher's promotion for the novel "Hard Boiled" by Harmon Bellamy. CONDITION -- GOOD PLUS -- This is a previously owned book which remains clean and presentable, with the following imperfections and particulars noted : EXTERIOR : There is small loss to the front cover on the bottom edge, next to the spine fold; soft bumps to corner tips; a slight curvature to the book; shallow surface creasing; surface rub is mild - colors are bright; displays nicely. BINDING : The staples are rusted but still firmly attached, and no leaves are detached or loose. INTERIOR : Slight nicking to the bottom edges of the first few pages next to the spine; the paper throughout is unavoidably toned, but there is no marking, no writing and no signatures or stamping. Cover art by George Gross (illustrator).
