Trine immersion requires immersing a person three times, once for each member of the Trinity. The correspondence was not a schism, but rather a theological debate. Both men were in the Virginia Anabaptist tradition and the title page says "resulting in the conviction of the latter, and change of his religious affiliation". No details of this are known.
