4to, 62 pp, saddle-stapled wraps. Illustrated with several drawings. Association copy, inscribed by Culbertson to Benjamin Gitlow. First and only edition of this rare geopolitical work written by the game theorist and contract bridge innovator. Culbertson had been a revolutionary agent before becoming an expert at contract bridge, among other gambling systems. The threat of war in the 1930's brought a return to politics. This work was published in the year he founded the Citizens Committee for United Nations Reform, and is oddly elusive in the marketplace, and is a fascinating if little known work connecting geopolitics with game theory. This copy is also fascinating association - Gitlow was one of the founders of the CPUSA, but by the time this work was published had turned to conservatism and become an anti-communist activist whose works were influential in the McCarthy era. Near fine, with a bump to crown. Pencilled notation from a legendary bookscout within.
