An inch by three quarter inch piece missing from head of front panel starting at the fore-edge and affecting title lettering. Two abrasions to jacket further damage titling. Spine is quite faded with title and author lettering s…till legible. Spine is missing top three eights inch and roughly a quarter inch at the foot and is worn along the folds. Rear jacket panel has a three eighths inch tear to head. End-papers toned, especially darkened at the gutters. Boards are a bit soiled with an eighth inch abrasion through the cloth to the foot of front board. Spine worn at head and foot, cloth intact. Signed by the author on front free end-paper and otherwise unmarked. There are four letters from the author (als) to a customer who has ordered the book and, among other things, wanted it signed by her and by Admiral Richard E. Byrd who wrote a Foreword for the book. Binding is cocked but firm. Signed by Author(s).
