Hardcover. Condition: Good. First edition. Dampstain to spine. Else good. Signed by the author on the title page, with a presentation on the half title "To Editor Al Nelson, Fellow Contriver for the great potentials of "Minnesota, Land of Paul Bunyan and Big Opportunities, Confidently yours, Helner (?)E. Olson Hibbing 11/28/56" Benson was, as he tells in his preface, a long time collector of Bunyan folklore. His retelling renders disparate tales into something like a folk-biography of our lumberjack hero, adding the spark of imagination. Benson was in Japan at the time he was writing his book on Paul Bunyan. There is a story here, that I do not have time to tell.
