Emigrò dalla Russia negli Stati Uniti nel 1889, e lì esercitò la professione di medico osteopata a Newark, nel New Jersey. Fu autore di questo metodo originale per insegnare l'esperanto per immagini, e fondatore di una importante scuola esperanto. Fu membro dell'American Academy of Esperanto negli anni '40.
