Volume, measuring approximately 5.5" x 8.25", is bound in original printed wrappers. Book displays very light shelfwear. Sewn binding is sound. Initial preliminary page and blank page at rear exhibit light foxing. Pages are clean and without markings. lviii/77 pages. Work by Italian-born explorer and chronicler Jeronimo Benzoni (1519?-1566). This history of the New World offers a critique of Spanish colonial rule and a denunciation of the crimes committed in the name of Christianity. This work, together with that of Bartolome de Las Casas, influenced accounts of Spanish colonial rule and helped create the "black legend" of the Spanish presence in the Americas and beyond.
