Sheet Music
Single sheet of sheet music with one song, lyrics and sheet music, about the legendary Canadian figure Mufferaw Joe, by Bernard Bedore. Mufferaw Joe was inspired by the real figure of Joseph Montferrand (1802-1864). Montferrand was the son of a voyageur, and ultimately worked as a logger for the Hudson's Bay Company, in the area of the Ottawa Valley. Known for his great height, speed, and strength, Montferrand became a semi-legendary figure and ultimately gave rise to the fictional figure of Big Joe Mufferaw. Speculation is that "Mufferaw" resulted from an Anglophone mispronunciation of Montferrand. He is probably best known from the Stompin' Tom Connors' song called Big Joe Mufferaw. Bernard Bedore, the author of this song, also wrote a number of books of stories inspired by ones he heard as a child about Mufferaw Joe.
