Untrimmed fore-edge of text-block a little toned. The whole slightly bowed. Binding sound and of decent appearance. Contents clean, tight and near fine. GOOD+ copy. Inscribed "To my friend Endean from W. Bernard Xmas 1933" on front pastedown.

Original publisher's white cloth over orange cloth boards, lettered gilt on spine with gilt decorations. A series of Copper Plates engraved in the Line manner by Edward Wadsworth and coloured by hand, with an introduction and…brief descriptions by Bernard Windeler. One of 450 numbered copies, this 115. A departure for Wadsworth from wood-engraving and is one of only a few books printed by the Curwen Press from copper-engravings. It contains some fourteen large hand-coloured engravings of sailing vessels, several vignettes, an engraved title page and a fine engraved map of the area covered, between Alicante and Trieste. The marriage of Wadsworth's Òspare and gracefulÓ (Gilmour) engravings and the equally light Koch Kursiv typeface is a resounding and unexpected success. With the small attractive bookplate at rear pastedown, showing a bookish owl, of 'Oz' publisher, later media tycoon, Felix Dennis (1947-2014). He was also a distinguished poet, philanthropist, book collector and lover of trees (the Forest of Dennis.) Ownership signature on the front pastedown of Betsy Drake (1923 Ð 2015) American actress and writer and also known for being the third wife of actor Cary Grant. Mild fading to the edges of the upper cover, head and tail of spine a little bumped but generally a very good copy.

In the original publisher's cloth binding, in the original slipcase. Externally, with discolouration and tide marks to the boards. Front hinge is starting but firm. Internally, firmly bound. Slipcase shows signs of wear and abrasion to extremities. Sheets otherwise very good condition.
