Full Leather Bound. Condition: Fair. XVIIe siècle. Matthieu Beuvelet (1622 - 1657) was a priest at the Séminaire of Saint-Nicolas-du-Chardonnet, a centre of Tridentine reform where contemplative method shaped an entire generation of French clergy. His *Méditations*, composed expressly for seminarians, became a standard text in ecclesiastical circles and remained in use long after his death. This third volume, devoted to the Sundays of the Year and ecclesiastical conferences, unfolds as a sustained meditation on the Gospel readings for each Sunday, organized according to the Sulpician three-point method adoration, communion, and cooperation a pedagogical and spiritual framework that became foundational to Catholic seminary training. For collectors and scholars of Counter-Reformation theology, French spiritual literature, and the intellectual formation of the ancien régime clergy, this volume offers direct access to the contemplative method that shaped the priests of the grand siècle. This is the second edition, issued by Georges Josse on the Rue Saint-Jacques in Paris in 1664, two years after the edition princeps of 1659, bearing the approbation of the Doctors of the Sorbonne and the Royal Privilege beneath the house's characteristic ornamental device of putti holding an ornamental cartouche. This copy is an isolate volume: Tomes I and II (the principal feasts and ecclesiastical life) are not present The binding is a period basane (soft leather) in brown-black with five raised bands and gilt tooling for the title and volume number, the boards lined with marbled caillou-pattern paperboth equally worn, faded, and stained in gray, with white flaking visible across the surface. The headbands have been torn away, the hinge-stitching has split along its full length, and the spine leather shows substantial loss and scaling, yet the title page remains clean and fully legible. Orders are shipped within 24 hours of purchase in carefully chosen, well-protected packaging selected to suit the age and fragility of the book.
