Otherwise, a very good copy - clean, bright and unmarked - of this rare autobiography of an important designer. Not in OCLC. ~SP26~ [2.0P] David Bhang was a graphic designer, art director, and illustrator known for creating the iconic, winged 'VH' logo for Van Halen's debut album and for the album cover design itself in 1978, and he discusses that work in depth in this autobiography. Bhang worked in diverse areas including magazines like Playboy and Home Magazine, and as an in-house designer for Warner Bros. Records before opening his own office, Dave Bhang Design. In addition to the logo - which was a deliberate statement to distinguish the band from the punk scene of the time - Bhang also created the cover art for the debut album, featuring individual photos of the band members with his logo. His career spanned graphic design, art direction, and illustration for various publications, including Playboy, New West, and Home Magazine, as well as the Herald Examiner. He served as an in-house designer for Warner Bros. Records and designed album covers for several Los Angeles-based record companies.
