Hardcover. Condition: VG- for age. 1st Edition. Blue cloth with black sp. lettering, clean and unworn but marred by a number of blotches of pigment loss to central area of back, faint spots of same to spine and thin hint os edge fading, reducing rating from VG+ to VG-. f/piece monochrome portrait + 7 unpaginated prelims + family tree + 280. 13 further plates ex-pagination (mostly portraits of subject), small woodcut chapter tail pieces; not obvious internal faults being clean, tight, unmarked and untanned. The unclipped jacket is remarkably good for agre, being clean and basically unworn, however it appears to have been reinforced along top and bottom edges and sp. ends with a virtually identically coloured thin strip 2 of cm wide light brown paper (1 cm at external sp. ends), this just shaves the top word of sp. title (KITTY) and as visible across sp. bottom, inconsequential lighter brown label removal ghost lower back. Will add protective sleeve when ordered which make these faults even less obvious. Apparently rare with jacket and only one copy without it matched on Bookfinder at time of listing. The Duchess (1701-1777) was a remarkable women a prominent socialite, also renowned for her beauty, eccentricity and the West Indian slave she was gifted whom she immediately freed, reared as her son and promoted as her fencing master, So, a lot of angle of interest. 14 cm x 22 cm.
