Hardcover. Condition: Very good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very good. Jack Bilander (jacket portrait) and William Lulow (illustrator). Presumed First Edition, First printing. The format is approximately 5.75 inches by 8.825 inches. 62, [2] pages. Inscribed by the author on the fep. The inscription reads 1991 For Sophia--In warm friendship-- Sincerely Nathan Teitel. Includes An Appreciation of Nathan Teitel's Poetry by William Packard. Nathan Teitel (1910-1998) had won distinction in every literary genre: poetry, drama and fiction. He was a Professor of Modern Literature at New York University and had lectured in Drama at Stanford University. He was the widower of Carol Teitel, a noted actress who was killed tragically by a drunk driver. His book of poems, ''In Time of Tide'', was noted by fellow poet, William Packard, as ''terse, impassioned and utterly lyrical-something that is rare in any day and age.The severe spirits of Catullus and Herman Melville hover over these lines, ominously plain and stark and heroic.''-- Mr. Packard's Appreciation. William Packard (September 2, 1933 - November 3, 2002) was an American poet, playwright, teacher, novelist, and was also founder and editor of the New York Quarterly, a national poetry magazine. Poet and novelist James Dickey called Packard "one of the great editors of our time". Cited by Rolling Stone as "the most important poetry magazine in America," the New York Quarterly earned a reputation for excellence by publishing poems, and for its "exceptional in-depth interviews," NYQ has, in its thirty-year career, published virtually every important poet in the nation. This was Teitel's first collection of his poems, some of which had previously appeared in The New York Quarterly, Western Review, and Golden Goose. Among the topics addressed in these poems are: Prayer, Father, Journey, Questions, Refugees, Everyman, In Memoriam, Apocalypse, Atom Bomb, United Nations, Admonitions, Young Artist, Carol Teitel, Sunset, Mountain, Equations, Portraits, Provincetown Harbor, Dunes, Evolution, Thomas Wolfe, Scott Fitzgerald, Rousseau, Rice Pereira, Abyss, and Testament.
