Der früheste in der Sammlung enthaltene Brief mit gedrucktem Briefkopf der von Max Bill mitbegründeten Hochschule für Gestaltung Ulm, die er von 1953-1956 als erster Rektor leitete. Die gezeichnete Datierung ist wohl aufzulösen als 6. 1…. (Dreikönigstag) (19)52/53. Die übrigen Briefe stammen aus der Zeit vom September 1958 bis September 1968, sämtliche an eine Geliebte. Zur Sprache kommen meist Reisepläne und Ausstellungen oder das Angebot einer Professur in München. In dem maschinenschriftlichen Brief, dat. 25. 5. (19)59, heißt es: "hingegen habe ich das kriegsbeil wieder ausgegraben und plane allerhand dinge", vermutlich in Anspielung auf Querelen mit der HfG Ulm. Einige Beilagen, darunter ein Typoskript (4 Seiten), dat. 7. 3. 1968, mit dem Betreff "Entgegnungen der Hochschule für Gestaltung zu den jüngsten Verlautbarungen Max Bills", mit einigen hs. Streichungen und Anmerkungen. Geringe Altersspuren.

Ab 1929 war Bill sowohl praktisch als auch theoretisch als Architekt, Bildhauer, Grafiker und Maler tätig. Er war Teilnehmer der documenta 1 (1955), der documenta II (1959) und der documenta III(1964) in Kassel. - Von 1951 bis 1953 war er Mitbegründer der Ulmer Hochschule für Gestaltung (HfG) und entwarf ihr Schulgebäude. Von 1953 bis 1956 war er deren erster Rektor. Zwischen 1967 und 1974 hatte Bill den Lehrstuhl für Umweltgestaltung an der Hochschule für bildene Künste Hamburg. Gewicht in Gramm: 1200.
