The story was written during the darkest period of the Civil War, at a time when one-half of the people in the United States were burning with patriotism while the other half were striving to disrupt what to them was merely a confederation of States, in no wise binding, and were damning the United States. Photographs, illustrations, and notes are included; with notes and questions. Some notes appear on the FFEP; otherwise, this HARDCOVER copy is clean and solid.

Toasts for the Times in Pictures and Rhymes is starting in the back groove, a little rubbed on pictoral cover, but really still quite sound with great illustrations by Ms. Binckley. The two books together is a dandy value!
