Hardcover. Condition: Very good. Folio. (34), 560, xcii, 8 pp. Contemporary elaborate morocco, fine armorial binding. Corners and spine tips repaired, lacks clasps, scuffs and rubbing from use. Spine elaborately tooled as well. Red and black text, double column, chant notations. Worn ribbon markers. A few small closed tears; T6 with large corner repair, the Crucifixion illustration corner supplied with ink, and the text of the Sanctus on the reverse affected. Facing page, the beginning of the Canon Missae, with lower margin repair affecting the border design, and corner lacking from 2B2, neither defect affecting the text. Pencil notes refer to a Bishop of Pienza, Italy, and an ink handwritten Oration for Blessed Martin on the last blank. Presentation binding for Giovanni Checconi, Bishop of Pienza, 1665-1668, with his coat of arms incorporated into the tooling. . He was appointed during the papacy of Alexander VII. The binding is by the Rospigliosi Bindery (Andreoli Brothers), almost certainly by Gregorio Andreoli based on the similarity of tools and style to his known bindings. (See Folger collection; British Library Binding Database, and auction records.) A well used example, but still in very good condition. .
