Paper boards. Condition: Good+. FIRST EDITION, FROM THE LIBRARY OF VIVIEN GREENE. Slim folio, pp. 10, [1 List of Plates; 1 blank] + 12 colour plates. Original quarter sage cloth, spine lettered in black, marbled grey paper boards. Bumped, boards faintly foxed. Inscribed in blue-black ink and Graham Greene's minute hand: "My darling never more so than on our 12th Christmas. 1939.", Vivien Greene's bookplate (green, printed in black with a floral illustration and 'This book belongs to,' featuring her ownership signature) and posthumous ex libris to front pastedown (added by bookseller Ann Gate for provenance), extra-illustrated with a clipped newspaper photograph of Vivien Greene to ffep, and a clipped colour reproduction of Antonello da Messina's 'Crucifixion' to final page, and featuring Gate's clipped catalogue introduction pasted to the ffep, plus a folded article by the bookseller about cataloguing Vivien Greene's collection to half-title, toned and foxed. Else, clean. Clipped and annotated copy of Ann Gate's original description of this book laid in. In the original illustrated dust jacket: toned and spotted, creased and nicked, brown marks to rear panel. This book survived the destruction of the Greenes' Clapham Common house in 1940, was salvaged by Graham and sent to Oxford, where Vivien and their children spent the war. This copy subsequently became a fan copy in 2009, having featured in Ann Gate's 2004 'Vivien & Graham Greene Centenary Catalogue: Books from [Vivien Greene's family home] Grove House, Iffley Turn, Oxford' for Waterfield's Antiquarian Booksellers: it is extra-illustrated with a clipped newspaper photograph of Vivien Greene and includes related ephemera pasted and laid in.…
