Red cloth, spine titled in black. Slight fading to spin, slight browning but very good. Lacks dust-wrapper. Noel Sedgwick was the editor of The Shooting Times and begin this book with material he wrote for this paper. "As Editor of this journal, and as a member of various committees allied to sport, I am naturally in a very favourable position to observe and to understand many matters which may not be altogether clear to the 'ordinary reader'. In this respect, and while giving away nothing of a confidential nature, I have devoted one chapter to the vexed question of wildfowl protection, for I feel most strongly that every sportsman, whether he is a wildfowler or not, should be made aware of the very real dangers to his interests. Apart from this chapter, I have endeavoured to write on those very ordinary subjects which I believe will interest the great majority of shooting men, rather than a section of them. There is little in this book about organised shooting (or large bags), except as it affects those who occasionally shoot as guests and those who love dog work, especially that concerning picking-up at organised shoots. Every shooting man is, or should be, an amateur naturalist, enjoying to the full his environments and the wild life he sees, and being able to identify the more common birds, interpreting their voices and movements to his own benefit. For that reason, a certain amount of natural history will be found among the chapters on shooting." Chapters include: Working for your game; Wildfowl protection; Shooting field problems; Bane of the keeper; Rabbits and rabbiting; Side-lights on hares; Pigeon shooting small days; Round and about; Very rough shooting; From my diary; Natural history casebook; Pastures new. .

Green cloth, spine titled in gilt. Minor faults, slight stains / dents / marks to cloth, slight use and browning to end-papers and edges. Good, lacks dust-wrapper. Noel Sedgwick was the editor of the Shooting Times for many years. In this volume he gives much good advice about wildfowling and rough shooting, with many anecdotes of his own experiences. The era saw position of the wildfowler and his quarry deteriorate, in part because of the war itself, and in part because of post-war reconstruction and the 'modernisation' which was just getting under way. Practical and interesting from a number of angles. Chapters include: Estuary shooting - I; Estuary shooting - II; Conservation of wildfowl; Swans and plover; Partridge days; More about partridges; Pheasant nostalgia; Poor man's pheasant; Deer, rabbits and stoats; By the way; Still by the way; Random jottings; Very good material; Return to the estuary. .

Throughout history, the treatment of the wounded has been shaped by the development of medical practices and warfare technologies. The author traces the contributions of pivotal figures like Hippocrates, Galen, and Henri Dunant to the field of military medicine. The book further examines how the interplay of war, religion, and science has impacted the treatment of wounded soldiers, leading to the establishment of organizations like the Order of St. John of Jerusalem and the Geneva Convention. Exploring themes of compassion, innovation, and the horrors of war, this book illuminates the remarkable progress in treating wounded soldiers, a testament to the dedication of those committed to alleviating human suffering amidst conflict.
