General Björnstjerna (1779-1847) was a writer on economics and history who also wrote The British Empire in the East in 1840. Born in Saxony, he joined the King's Guard in Sweden at the age of 14. He served in the Finnish Army's general staff as the head adjutant during the Finnish War, later becoming a major in the Västmanland Regiment. He was also a major figure in the Swedish revolution of 1809 and served as the Swedish Minister in London. Octavo (210 x 135 mm). Contemporary half sheep, marbled sides, flat spine lettered and ruled in gilt, edges sprinkled red.
