Half leather covered boards with marbled paper. Gilt borders between paper and leather on front and back panels; four raised bands on spine with gilt lettering and decorations. Upper external page edges are gilt. Paper on front board panel is scuffed - see photo. Edges at head and tail of board spine and a couple places on the bands are scuffed, as are the fore-edge corner tips and several places along the upper- and lower-most board edges. Side and lower page edges are age-toned. Marbled end papers match that on the board panels. Age-toning to text pages and foxing scattered throughout, although very legible. Text block is sound. Please use close-up options for best inspection and in support of condition descriptions. Additional photos available at your request. With an engraved frontispiece plate, 7 other engraved plates and a woodcut illustration in text (all present as required). A little rubbed at head and tail of spine, some marking and wear to cloth boards. Binding is otherwise tight and sound. First two plates cropped close to the plate mark by the binder and a little frayed at lower edge where they have jutted proud of the text block. Some foxing and age toning and a few leaves with corner creases or slight edge wear or chips. All else in good, clean, sound condition. A heavy book and additional postage may be required, particularly if sending overseas.
