Hardcover. Condition: Very Good. No Jacket. 1st Edition. 115 pp. Brief, 12 pp., Geology of the Way Up Claim, 11 pp., The Geology and Veins of Tombstone, Arizona, illustrations, charts, tables. A very good copy with wear to its edges and spine ends as photographed. Internally tight, strong hinged with original end papers and in fine condition. Now in a clear protective Mylar cover and housed in a protective archival case. SIGNED TWICE BY THE COMPILER WILLIAM P. BLAKE. This exceedingly rare book is the brief of the Way Up Mining Company in the litigation against the Tombstone Mill & Mining Company before the Arizona Territorial Supreme Court. The case began in Tombstone with Judge W. H. Stilwell presiding in1881, eventually making its way to the Arizona Supreme Court in 1883. This was mining engineer and geologist William P. Blake's personal copy. It is considered unique and one of the rarest Tombstone mining items extant. It has W.P. Blake's book plate and his hand written and signed contents on the second free end paper. It also has some of his page corrections and annotations. Bound in this volume are two 1881 papers by him, the first titled The Geology of the Way Up Claim and the second titled The Geology Veins of Tombstone. No person, knew more about the geology and mines of the Tombstone District than western geologist William P. Blake. The provenance and history of this exceedingly rare book is provided by attorney Robert Palmquist in the form of a eighty page three ring binder. His documentation regarding the law suit and biographical information of William P. Blake is as important as the book itself and integral to understanding its rarity and significance. A museum quality item. COLLECTOR QUALITY.
