Octavo, original cloth, [x], 165 pp. Very good condition. History of the 2nd Battalion (Black Watch) Highlanders, stationed in India since the Boer War and sent to France in 1914. From January 1916 the Black Watch were deployed in Mesopotamia. This account, penned anonymously by Captain Blampied, contains two chapters by Colonel Wauchope, the commanding officer. An appendix of casualties across the ranks shows the disturbing prevalence of death by disease, especially septicaemia.

A First World War memoir of a member of the 2nd Battalion Black Watch, a constituent battalion of the 21st Brigade, Tigris Force which fought at the siege of Kut-al-amara. Includes a brief service record of each officer and a Roll of Honour for the Battalion. The author and battalion are not expressly identified in the book, but were later identified from the contents of the service records. A book in Good condition with a tight binding, with worn but complete covers and spine. Half-title hinge partly detached, tear to title page, but otherwise undamaged with clean contents.
