Softcover. BLASCOE, Toni; BLASCOE, Walter (illustrator). First Edition. Handmade picture book about Carmel, California, aptly entitled "A Picture Book About Carmel, California." Made by Toni and Walter Blascoe of Carmel, CA (also known as Carmel-by-the-sea). This book features postcards and photographs to highlight the sights in Carmel and its surroundings. 5.5 x 8" book, with colorful floral paper over flexible boards, with pink string binding. 22 leaves, which appear to have been hand cut by the authors. Contains 11 color postcards, measuring 3.5 x 5." These show Carmel, CA and the Monterey peninsula area including Ocean Avenue; Lamp Lighters Inn; the mission; the beach; 17 mile drive; Lone Cypress; and Fisherman's Wharf in Monterey, CA. Also contains 9 color photographs, likely taken by the Blascoes or their friends in the early 1960s. These 7 measure 3.5" square, one measures 3.5 x 2.5", and one measures 3.5 x 5." These depict beach views, Monterey Harbor, the Blascoes, their home, and their orchards. Contains very limited text, mostly describing the pictures that appear on each page. The text is cut out from newspapers, except for some punctuation which is added in blue pen. The last page is dated February 5th, 1964 in newspaper clippings, and signed in blue ink by Toni Blascoe. Taped onto the front endpaper is a typed letter signed from Mrs. Walter Blascoe to her "Often Removed Relatives," dated March 4th, 1964. This letter describes the goings on in her life and a brief description of the books and its contents. Overall very good condition. Light discoloration to the wrappers, pages lightly time toned, mostly along the edges or near glue. Photographs and letter in very good condition.
