William Blasius (1818-1899), born Heinrich Wilhelm Blasius in Germany, came to the United States in 1850. He published Storms: Their Nature, Classification and Laws in 1875. In this paper he argues for improving the scientific method used to study the weather, while also critiquing the work of Elias Loomis (1811-1889), who played an instrumental role in the development of weather maps.
