Stereoview. Condition: Near Fine. Three hand-colored French tissue stereoview photos, all showing groups of children circa 1860s, working and playing in front of a camera for the photographer. Decorative yellow mounts w. "B.K. Photographie Paris" embossed at center and "Ch. D." and "Paris" near corners. Views w. light soil and rubbing, one with a few spots and a small puncture in the right side image - not affecting the action of the "Blind Man's Bluff" game being played. The other two images show the teamwork involved in threshing grain and harvesting fruit. Each verso has a penciled number. Displaying the artistry and expertise of a lost art, these "French tissue" stereoview photographs were reverse colored by hand before being backed with a layer of tissue paper and sandwiched between the two decorative windows. The 3-D perspective thereby created when looking through a backlit viewer (photos appear as B&W without backlight) or with practice and a little patience - the naked eye, is exceptional.
