Dust jacket rubbed; multiple edge chips and tears; chip to upper spine as well; front flap retains publisher's printed price at bottom right; dj now presented in a mylar Brodart protector. White cloth spine foxed; black boards have slender wear to their top edges and bumped top corners. Some soiling and toning to text block edges. Author's four-line ink inscription "For | James Miller | with all best regards | from Herb Block" on front free endpaper. Endpapers toned; toning to pages 124-125, 152-155, and 184-185 from removed irrelevant newspaper clippings. Binding is firm. With a 72 year career as a cartoonist (of which 55 years were at The Washington Post) the renowned Herb Block won Pulitzer Prizes for editorial cartooning in 1942, 1954, and 1979 and shared a fourth Pulitzer in 1973 for Public Service. Block was awarded the Presidential Medal of Freedom by President Bill Clinton in 1994.

HIs father, Langdon Marvin Sr. was a law partner of FDR. 430 cartoons and 30,000 words of text by Herb Block. 4to Hardcover. White cloth spine and brown boards stamped in black and red on spine. Mainly a light damp stain extending up from bottom edge at most 1/2" and generally much less on about 1/3 of the pages otherwise clean. Tightly bound cover with some indications of wear. Fair dust jacket with some short tears, stains on back panel and some small chips along edges in a new clear protective sleeve.
