paperback. Condition: Good. Our good condition books are generally good for reading but not for gifting or collecting. They could have imperfections such as creasing, fanning, inscriptions, margin notes, yellowing, staining on edge or cover or pages, bumps, scuffs, etc etc (sometimes multiple of these). It's a wide category that… encompasses anything that isn't almost-new down to anything that is slightly better than poor. We would NOT recommend gifting Good books - these should be considered reading copies. Our books are dispatched from a Yorkshire former cotton mill. We list via barcode/ISBN so please note that the images are stock images and may not be the exact copy you receive, furthermore the details about edition and year might not be accurate as many publishers reuse the same ISBN for multiple editions and as we simply scan a barcode or enter an ISBN we do not check the validity of the edition data when listing. If you're looking for an exact edition please don't order (at least not without checking with us first, although we don't always have time to check). We aim to dispatch prompty, the service used will depend on order value and book size. We can ship to most countries, see our shipping policies. Payment is via Abe only.

Hardcover. Condition: Very good. Dust Jacket Condition: Very good. 1st Edition. Format is approximately 5 inches by 7.5 inches. [10], 210, [4] pages Includes chapters on Waking Up; A Brief History; The Right; The Left; Radical Islam; and How to Fight. Also includes Acknowledgments. Bari Weiss (born March 25, 1984) is an American… opinion writer and editor. From 2013 until 2017, she was an op-ed and book review editor at The Wall Street Journal. From 2017 to 2020, she was an op-ed staff editor and writer about culture and politics at The New York Times. Since March 1, 2021, she has worked as a regular columnist for Die Welt. In her 2019 book, How to Fight Anti-Semitism, Weiss describes the contentious atmosphere t college as giving her "a front row seat to leftist anti-Semitism' at the university. The activism initiated by Weiss was alleged by Glenn Greenwald to be 'designed to ruin the careers of Arab professors by equating their criticisms of Israel with racism, anti-Semitism, and bullying, and its central demand was that those professors (some of whom lacked tenure) be disciplined for their transgressions.' Weiss has called Greenwald's characterizations 'baseless', saying that she 'advocated for the rights of students to express their viewpoints in the classroom', adding, 'I don't know when criticizing professors became out of bounds.' In 2019, The Jerusalem Post named Weiss the seventh most influential Jew in the world. For most Americans, the massacre at Tree of Life, the synagogue where Bari Weiss became a bat Mitzvah, came as a shock. Yet anti-Semitism is the oldest hatred, commonplace across the Middle East and on the rise for years in Europe. So that terrible morning in Pittsburgh raised a question Americans can no longer avoid: Could it happen here? This book is Weiss's answer. Like many, Weiss long believed this country could escape the rising tide of anti-Semitism. With its promise of free speech and religion, its insistence that all people are created equal, its tolerance for difference, and its emphasis on shared ideals rather than bloodlines, America has been, even with all its flaws, a new Jerusalem for the Jewish people. But now the luckiest Jews in history are beginning to face a three-headed dragon known all too well to Jews of other times and places: the physical fear of violent assault, the moral fear of ideological vilification, and the political fear of resurgent fascism and populism. No longer the exclusive province of the far right, the far left, and assorted religious bigots, anti-Semitism now finds a home in identity politics as well as the reaction against identity politics, in the renewal of America First isolationism and the rise of one-world socialism, and in the spread of Islamist ideas into unlikely places. A hatred that was, until recently, reliably taboo, anti-Semitism is migrating toward the mainstream, amplified by social media and a culture of conspiracy that threatens us all. Weiss's cri de coeur is an unnerving reminder that Jews must never lose their hard-won instinct for danger, and a powerful case for renewing Jewish and American values in uncertain times from one of our most provocative writers. Not just for the sake of America's Jews, but for the sake of America. First Edition [Stated], First Printing [Stated]. Sam Bloom (Author photograph) (illustrator).

Large Format Paperback. Condition: Fine. Near new condition. Forging Modern Jewish Identities illuminates facets of modern Jewish identity through engagement with diverse historical moments, political and social currents, and literature as an aspect of popular culture. Its introduction places the volume within the burgeoning gen…re of anthologies that constitute a significant - but little noticed - development in Jewish and ethnic-national historiography. Cutting across disciplinary and national boundaries, the articles highlight Jewry's encounter with modernity from the late nineteenth to the mid-twentieth century. While acknowledging the power of acculturation, each of the contributions details how Jews transformed themselves, individually and communally, while reshaping notions of Jewish community and what it means to be a Jew in the modern world. This volume is distinctive, and will appeal to both the general reader and to those who wish to use it as a teaching tool. Experts explore the experiences of Jewry in the United States, Britain, Central and Western Europe, Russia and the Soviet Union. Size: 8vo.

Hardcover. Condition: Fine. ix, (3), 469, (3)pp. Index and bibliography. Text mostly in French with some English and a smattering of Hebrew. Light blue buckram lettered in black. Illustrated with diagramatic representations of the Chamber of Deputies. A fine, as new copy. This volume principally deals with perceptions on Jews da…ting from the beginnings of their emancipation to the Dreyfus Affair. The title in French, and the original title of the colloquium in Hebrew, 'Enlightened Antisemitism' not only reflects the overall anti-religious (anti-Christian and, hence, by necessity, anti-Jewish) sentiments of an Enlightenment figure such as Voltaire, but also refers to those who justified either their philosemitism or antisemitism with erudition: Johann David Michaelis, Antoine Guénée, Charles Maurras, etc. With France as its focal point, the volume also contains essays that treat various perceptions of Jews during the same period in England, Germany, and Italy. Interdisciplinary in nature, this collection of essays treats the Jewish question from historical, literary, and sociological angles. (Publisher) Volume 34 of the "Brill's Series in Jewish Studies." (BSJS).
