Soft cover. Condition: Very Good. First Edition. One of 250 numbered copies. 4to. Stapled at the top corner. Unpaginated (46pp. printed on rectos only). Somewhat rubbed and handled, the cover sheet and internal sheet toned, the blank back cover a little soiled, but about Very Good all things considered. This copy has the ownership inscription of John James on the front.

First edition, first printing. Publisher's original black cloth with gilt titles to the spine, in dustwrapper. A near fine copy, the binding square and firm, the cloth and gilt fresh, with a touch of rubbing at the extremities. The contents are clean throughout, and without inscriptions or stamps. Complete with the better than very good lightly creased dustwrapper, which has a couple of small scratches to the rear panel and a lightly faded spine. A collection of nine essays providing a critical evaluation of the concept of popular culture and examining the experiences of lower social classes in the period from the Reformation to the Industrial Revolution.
