Bode was a portrait artist from New York who died prematurely in the year of publication and published posthumously by his widow, Kate Bode. Bode was fascinated by Chinatown and its residents. His skillful sketches of people and scenes convey a vivid picture of Chinatown at the end of the 19th century. A very RARE and earnest presentation depicting the life of Chinese immigrants in 1890s San Francisco.
