BOLEMAN, Stephani (István): Rhetorica ex indole sermonis explicita. Pestini [Pest], 1836. Typ. Trattner-Károlyianis. XII, 176, [2] p. (Erroneous pagination, actually 178 p.) First edition. Bound in contemporary paper boards. On the front free endpaper, inscribed by the author: "Memoriae et amoris causa - Stephanus Boleman mp Prof. - Posonii, die 26ta Julii, 1858." (In memory and with affection. . .) Right below it is the autograph signature and ownership inscription of "Jos. Lud. Holuby" - Jozef Ludovit Holuby (1836 -1923), one of the greatest polymaths in the history of Slovak science, a world-renowned botanist of the Carpathian Basin flora, ethnographer, and Lutheran pastor. Holuby studied theology at the Lutheran Lyceum of Pozsony (Bratislava) precisely between 1855 and 1858, where István Boleman was his professor. The date of the inscription perfectly coincides with the completion of Holuby's studies and his pastoral examination. This volume is a farewell gift from Professor István Boleman, presented to his most talented graduating student upon leaving the institution. István Boleman (1795 -1882) was one of the most renowned Hungarian Lutheran educators, theologians, and professors of rhetoric of the 19th century. A remarkable biographical detail is that he was the teacher of Sándor Petöfi - the greatest Hungarian poet and freedom fighter - at the lyceum in Selmecbánya. ( O,O ) /)__) , ,
