L'édition collective la plus recherchée des Antiquitez de Paris de Corrozet, réunissant pour la première fois les deux parties sous une même couverture ; première édition illustrée ; édition originale de la seconde partie.Gilles Corrozet (Paris, 1510-1568), libraire, poète et l'un des premiers historiens de Paris, avait publié dès 1532 La Fleur des antiquitez de Paris, constamment réédité et augmenté jusqu'à l'édition de 1561, « la meilleure et la plus complète de toutes celles que Corrozet a publiées » (Biographie universelle, XI, 932). L'édition de 1586, publiée par son gendre Nicolas Bonfons, intègre les faits des années 1581-1585, la liste des évêques, des magistrats, des rues, églises et hôtels des Grands Seigneurs. Deux ans plus tard, en 1588, Bonfons y adjoignit le Livre second, oeuvre originale du peintre Jean Rabel, consacré aux sépultures royales et princières. « L'édition de 1561 est la meilleure, mais celle de 1586, avec le supplément de Rabel, lui est hautement préférable » (ibid.). Ce fut du reste la dernière : le père Du Breul (1528-1614) publia en 1612 son Théâtre des antiquitez de Paris, qui déclassa et remplaça l'ouvrage de Corrozet.L'illustration, 56 gravures sur bois par Jean Rabel (ca 1545-1603), peintre du roi et graveur, représente l'abbaye de Saint-Germain-des-Prés, les tombes royales de Saint-Denis, et surtout les tombeaux érigés en l'église Saint-Paul par Henri III à ses mignons : Quélus, Saint-Mégrin et Maugiron, monuments détruits par les ligueurs dès 1589, dont ces gravures constituent le seul témoignage iconographique. « Édition recherchée pour la seconde partie : Les Sépultures, recueillies par Jean Rabel, peintre, contenant 55 curieuses figures sur bois » (Ruggieri). Les épitaphes qui accompagnent les tombeaux sont d'une exceptionnelle qualité littéraire : « Treize des épigraphes françaises (y compris celle de Maugiron) sont empruntées à Ronsard. Cinq autres sont signées, savoir : une de Jodelle (épitaphe latine de l'amiral Chabot), une de Des Portes (sonnet français sur Belleau), une de Jean Dorat (distiques latins sur le même), une de Du Bartas (sonnet français sur Christophe de Thou), et une de Cl.
