Boards. 1st Edition. Eight volume 'Subscriber Edition', all in original boards decorated in black and gilt, with gilt Australia arms and black floral design, all edges gilt. N.d. (1874-1876). Total of 232 pages of text and 110 b&w steel engraved plates with tissue guards plus table of contents and list of engravings (last volume). Eight maps: Victoria, NSW, Overland Route, Queensland, Australia, South Australia, Tasmania, World map. Title-page vignettes to volumes one and eight. Some light foxing, the first plates in vols 5, 6 and 8 more heavily foxed mainly to the edges and margins. Occasional offsetting to tissue guards, one tissue guard loose, stitching weak and hinges tender in some volumes. Vol 1 starting to fray to edges. The map of Victoria is loose.
